GOLF
CLUB
The University of Texas Golf Club has been open for eight short years,
but the impression it leaves on its members and guests will last for a
lifetime. In a short time, The University of Texas Golf Club has grown
from raw Hill Country acreage transformed into a beautiful, vast
landscape of rolling green hills, tailored fairways, intimidating bunkers
and views from teeing grounds that are truly a golfer’s heaven.
The UT Golf Club was the vision of a group of UT alumni who set
out on a mission to create a first-class, private golf club for members,
as well as a home for The University of Texas Men’s and Women’s
varsity golf teams. This 7,412 yard, par- 71 course is bordered by
the Balcones Canyonlands Preserve and features extraordinary
views of Lake Austin. The Club is located in a prestigious, gated
community in Steiner Ranch which features exceptional amenities
including exemplary schools, over 14 miles of hike and bike trails,
volleyball and basketball courts, tennis courts, 819 acres of nature
preserve, five parks, a private lake club, and three community
centers with swimming pools.
Designed by Bechtol Russell Golf, the course’s layout is challenging,
but through tedious analysis and input by the partners of the club,
UT’s coaches and former UT golf legends, the course is a test of skill
from the tips, but can also give the beginner a great golf experience
from the front tees. Given that there are between four and six teeing
grounds on each hole, any skill level will find the course welcoming.
The UT Golf Club utilizes its surroundings impeccably. The front nine
has the course’s two major elevation changes, with bridges crossing
the Balcones Canyonlands Preserve and the longest hole, a 605-
yard, par 5. The back nine has generous, open fairways and
boasts of views that are the best in Austin. Hole 15 overlooks Lake
Austin and the preserve, a breathtaking view that is naturally
complimented by excellently designed holes.
The practice facilities for members are outstanding as well.
Protected by cedar and oak trees behind the member’s driving
range are two holes dedicated to short game practice. This
practice area is a great place for families to teach their children
the game, or hone a skilled player’s short game to perfection.
The club also has an extensive driving range, multiple chipping,
pitching, and putting greens that are suitable for any players’
practice needs. In 2005, the club opened its UT Golf Academy
which has the latest in V1 Technology and Vector Launch monitors
for the Golf Professionals to assist Members during lessons. Also,
The Academy is the official home to the University of Texas Men’s
and Women’s golf teams including their locker rooms, study
areas, practice areas and coaches’ offices.
In addition to the golf facilities, The UT Golf Club offers its
members an outstanding 16,400 square-foot, richly appointed
clubhouse of pure Texas luxury. The Club’s amenities include
Men’s and Women’s Locker rooms, bar area, lounge areas,
private dining rooms, outdoor patio dining overlooking the
breathtaking 18th green, superb cuisine, exciting family events,
state-of-the-art fitness facility and an outdoor pavilion. The beauty
and design of the both the clubhouse and course has helped
membership sales of the club as they have been steady even
before its November 2003 opening.
The UT Golf Club has elevated the standards of exemplary golf,
premier junior golf programs, memorable dining experiences and
quality family entertainment. In 2013, the club will open the
newest additions of their Pool Center and Tennis Club. The
Edgar O. and Melanie A. Weller Tennis Center will feature the
Whaling/Snyder Indoor Courts. The Center will include six
indoor/four outdoor courts, well appointed locker rooms and
tennis shop. The Center will become an additional home for The
UT men’s and women’s tennis programs, one that will help with
their pursuit of a national championship.
The Club offers both local and regional memberships. The Local
Longhorn All Sports Membership is a full privileged/full family
membership which includes golf, tennis, fitness, swim, dining and
social events; the Burnt Orange Tennis Membership includes
tennis, fitness, swim, dining and social events; while the Burnt
Orange Social Membership offers a family the enjoyment of
dining, social, swim and fitness amenities.
With respect to the regional memberships, the Club has
designed a limited golf membership called a Burnt Orange
Membership, as well as a full privileged/full family
membership called a Regional Longhorn Membership. Both
memberships are perfect for those fortunate few who visit Austin
and want a place to play golf at one of the finest golf
destinations in Texas.
The University of Texas Golf Club will always be the place where
members never worry about a lack of tee time availability, will
be given every luxury as an experienced staff anxiously
understands the importance of member service, and will
experience all of the unique special events which the club has to
offer. At The UT Golf Club, the “Drives of Texas are always upon
you” A true, Texas Legendary experience!
